Mountain Movement Analysis

If you’re returning after some time off or looking to elevate your performance, let’s map out a plan

Physical Therapy

We’ll identify the root cause of the issue, address it with a customized exercise program and modify your activities to help you stay as active as possible. Then we’ll map out a plan to get you back to your mountain sport as quickly as possible, taking into consideration your current time constraints and other life factors. Each session is one hour long, with myself, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and is adaptable based on your current needs, short term and long term goals. We’ll work together to find what works best for you!

Running Analysis

Ideal for road or trail runners looking to optimize their performance or with a history of chronic issues. We’ll start with a run specific movement screen to get an idea of your mobility and strength, and then perform a treadmill gait analysis. We’ll discuss the findings and develop a customized exercise program taking into consideration your current level of training and goals. We’ll map out a plan to help you achieve your peak running performance.

Mountain Movement Analysis

Let’s take a look at how you move and how it may be affecting your sport. This is ideal for:

  • Hiking
  • Skiing
  • Backcountry skiing
  • Mountaineering
  • Alpine Climbing
  • Rock Climbing

We’ll analyze your mobility and strength as it relates to your specific mountain sport. Then we’ll develop a customized exercise program taking into consideration your current level of training and goals. We’ll map out a plan to help you progress to your peak level of performance.

Hi, I’m Theresa!

Physical Therapist, movement coach, and endurance athlete. A transplant from Wisconsin, I moved West to pursue my dreams in the mountains and empower patients in the Seattle area in 2010. Exploring the volcanoes on skis, connecting trails through the vast forest service lands on foot, and pushing personal boundaries, I have spent countless hours enjoying the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. I know firsthand that spending time outdoors is good for your heart and for your soul. I also know the debilitating pain and identity shift that comes through injury and a long recovery. If you’re feeling a little lost, I can get you back on track! And, if you’re looking to unlock new personal bests, I can help you there too!

My passion for skiing started at the young age of two and has grown ever since. I learned to fine-tune technique first with ski racing in high school and college, and then by coaching a high school ski team in grad school. My knowledge expanded to Free Ride and backcountry skiing upon moving to the Seattle area. Currently, I coach through Rippin Chix, offering women-specific ski camps. My trained eye as a PT has given me a unique point of view when it comes to coaching and skiing mechanics, helping you find and diagnose movements that may be holding you back from greater potential.

Throughout my practice as a PT, I’ve also taken several run-specific courses to fine-tune my knowledge to treat runners – knowledge I’ve applied to train for and complete trail ultra marathons. In 2021, I experienced a bone stress injury in my femur (PTs get injuries too!) which changed not only how I train, but also how I practice as a PT. The hard lessons I learned in recovery fueled my passion to help runners navigate the recovery process. When creating your custom plan, I consider your training load and other significant life factors to balance your activities and help you realize the healthiest mode of training for you.

It’s my goal to help you map out a plan to reach your peak performance, no matter where you are on your journey. Please get in touch!

Reach your goals just like our clients have:

"As a rehab therapist myself, I know the importance of having a knowledgeable PT. When I was faced with an injury and became the patient, it felt like my world turned upside down. I was so grateful to have Theresa as my physical therapist. She’s the PT you want— top notch clinical expertise, personal experience as an athlete, and super personable. Rehabbing is hard, but having the right PT makes all the difference!"

"Theresa is an incredible PT and I can’t recommend her enough! I saw her for a bad hip and hamstring injury that was preventing me from running and hurting at night and she got me back on my feet very quickly. One thing that stands out about Theresa is that she really takes the time to listen and ask questions, and is very thorough in her diagnosis. I also really appreciate the exercises she gave me focused on relieving pain in the short term while still focusing on strengthening and injury prevention in the long term. I’ve now incorporated most of those exercises in my workout routine and I’m seeing a big difference. I am so happy I found such an incredible PT, it makes such a difference!"

"Theresa was fantastic helping me recover from my broken leg over the summer and getting me back into ski boots as quickly as possible. I'm no professional athlete, but I spend enough time recreating in and training for the mountains that, when it comes to healthcare, I always seek out professionals who will treat me like an athlete, not an average patient. Theresa definitely did that. We worked together to push my body as hard as was reasonable, and listen to it when I needed to back off. I gained strength and mobility back remarkably quickly, faster than my surgeon was expecting. In addition to physical conditioning and rehab, she was great helping me out with swelling management. This was critical as I pushed hard to get fitness and mobility back into my leg. I was able to get back in ski boots by the time snow started falling, and once I started skiing I found that I was as fit as I'd ever been entering a ski season. I continue to use some of the exercises and workouts I learned working with her in my training regimen. Hopefully I never break a leg again, but if I do it's great to know I have a PT right down the road I can count on to help me get back on my feet!"

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please fill out the forms online that were sent when you scheduled your first appointment. Or print them and bring them with you if you prefer.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Please wear comfortable athletic clothing – anything you would normally train or recreate in. If you are being seen for a lower leg (knee or below) injury please bring or wear shorts. Please wear the shoes you normally recreate or train in. If you are being seen for a running evaluation, please bring all pairs of shoes you currently run in.

Does Alpine Mechanics take my insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider, meaning I do not bill insurance. A lot of insurances have out-of-network benefits. Contact your insurance provider to find out what they are (usually by the number on your card or on the insurance provider’s website). I can provide you with an itemized bill that you can submit to your insurance for each visit. If you have an HSA or FSA, you can also use that to pay for visits.

Why Out-of-Network?

I have seen first hand the difficulties and limitations of working with insurance. I want to be able to provide you with the best care possible and set you up with the tools and knowledge you need to help manage your care or achieve your goals. Most traditional PT models want to see you 2-3x/wk. I typically see people 1x/wk or every other week. We can come up with a frequency that works well for you! With a full one hour appointment, one on one with myself, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, you will get more value out of each visit.

What form of payment does Alpine Mechanics accept?

Cash, credit, HSA or FSA.

Can we chat before I commit to scheduling?
